2 years later 📆⏳👣

Two years ago today, I walked back into work after seven weeks away, having lost four stone.

At the time, no one saw what that actually meant: the trauma, the pressure, the systems failing quietly in the background. I didn’t yet understand what had been done to my nervous system, my health, or my life.

I barely recognise that woman now.
And that’s not a loss, it’s progress.

What hasn’t changed is why I kept going.
That smile from my little one still cuts through everything. It always has.

I didn’t survive that period just to endure it.

I survived it to build something better, for my children, and for people who are still being silenced by broken systems.

Two years on, I’m still here. 6 stone lighter.
Stronger. Clearer.

And no longer willing to disappear to make others comfortable.

A note on identity

NAAVoices was originally founded under a pseudonym to protect my identity. With time and healing I have come to realise that reducing stigma does not come from staying hidden — it comes from openness. Domestic abuse, mental health difficulties, and the need for advocacy happen to people from every walk of life. Speaking openly is an important part of normalising these conversations so that others feel safe to do the same.
